Number 8 in Numerology: Meaning and Significance
The eight is the only non-trivial cube in the first ten (2³): in antiquity it was called "the number of justice and completeness," in popular 20th-century numerology — the number of power, money, and material success, and in Eastern culture — "the number of luck." Interpretations…
Number 8 in the pythagorean : method and number meanings tradition
According to Agrippa, who synthesized the Pythagorean tradition, 8 = 2³ — the first "solid" (a cube): hence "completeness." "Justice" comes from its equal division into "evenly even" numbers (8 → 4 + 4, each four → 2 + 2). Orpheus swore by eight deities (Fire, Water, Earth, Sky, Moon, Sun, Phanes, Night); "the eight visible spheres of the heavens" — the fullness of the cosmos.
In Pythagorean numerology, 8 represents victory, prosperity, and overcoming; in the general formulation — "the number of building," and partly — "of destruction." In the ancient scheme, 8 has no planet: the association with Saturn is a later development (Cheiro).

Strengths and weaknesses
По халдейской школе (Cheiro; пересказ школы, а не универсальная истина), к сильным сторонам числа 8 относят:
- глубину натуры и силу индивидуальности, способность играть важную роль;
- концентрацию цели, философскую мысль, преданность делу;
- «тёплые сердца к угнетённым» при внешней сдержанности.
Слабые стороны из тех же фактов:
- фатализм: ощущение непонятости и душевного одиночества;
- крайности и фанатизм в религии и деле; идут напролом, наживая «ожесточённых врагов»;
- с мирской точки зрения восьмёрка неблагоприятна для рождения: «величайшие скорби, потери и унижения».

Number 8 in the chaldean : method and number meanings tradition
According to the Chaldean school (Cheiro), the origin of the "Chaldean and Hebrew alphabet" "is lost in antiquity"; no direct ancient texts survive — this is a 19th–20th century reconstruction, one school's interpretation.
The eight symbolizes Saturn, the "Planet of Fate," and has been linked since the most ancient times to inexorable destiny — in the lives of individuals and nations.
The "Period of Number 8" is Capricorn (December 21 – January 20), ruled by Saturn; the number influences those born on the 8th, 17th, or 26th of any month, especially in the "House of Saturn" (positive: December 21 – January 26, negative: January 26 – February 19/26).
The eight is "difficult to explain": two worlds, material and spiritual, "like two circles touching each other" (4 + 4); from a worldly perspective it is unfavorable at birth — "the greatest sorrows, losses, and humiliations."
Correspondences according to Cheiro:
Correspondence | Value (according to Cheiro) |
|---|---|
Birth days of "people of number 8" | 8th, 17th, 26th of the month |
"Period 8" (zodiac) | Capricorn (December 21 – January 20), ruled by Saturn |
Lucky days | 8, 17, 26; Saturday (day of Saturn), Sunday, Monday |
Colors | dark grey, black, dark blue, purple; "uncomfortable in light tones" |
Stones | amethyst, dark sapphire, black pearl, black diamond (against skin) |
The occult symbol of 8 is "the symbol of human justice": Justice with an upward sword and Scales; the Greeks, according to Cheiro, called 8 the number of justice — consistent with Agrippa. Jewish correspondences: circumcision on the 8th day, 8 days of Hanukkah, 8 prophets from Rahab, Noah — the eighth from Adam.
Number 8 in the kabbalistic : methods and the meaning of numbers tradition
In gematria — a method of Jewish exegesis in which words with equal sums of letter values are symbolically connected — Chet (ח) = 8; the term is attested from the 2nd century CE and widely applied in Kabbalah.
Agrippa (Christian Kabbalah) lists the eight in sacred contexts: "the name of God of eight letters" (Eloha Vadaath, Jehovah Vedaath), eight rewards of the blessed, eight visible heavens, the covenant of circumcision on the 8th day, the number of "eternity and the end of the world" (following 7 — "the mystery of time"), the number of salvation (David — the eighth son of Jesse).
The eighth sefirah of the Tree of Life is Hod ("Glory" or "Majesty"), the feminine principle in the pair with Netzah. Caveat: this is the sefirot system, not a numerological "interpretation of 8."
Number 8 in the vedic : methods and number meanings tradition
In the Vedic tradition, the number 8 is associated with Saturn (Shani) — one of the nine planets of the Navagraha. Shani is attributed the energy of work, discipline, and karma; by tradition, its influence brings delays and trials through which karma is worked out. The "8 = Saturn" scheme is an element of popular Vedic practice in the 20th–21st centuries, not an ancient teaching: in traditional Jyotish, numerology exists only as a subdivision of horary astrology (Ankajyotisha), and the "number — planet" correspondence table is not documented in encyclopedic sources.
Number 8 in the chinese : numbers, lo shu, and the kua number tradition
In the Chinese tradition, the eight is an even number, and in the Luoshu magic square it occupies one of the corner cells, where all even numbers are placed by the rules of the square. Its principal quality is homophony: 八 (bā) sounds like 發 (fā, "to prosper"), so 8 is traditionally considered the luckiest number in China and a symbol of wealth and business success; the combination 88 resembles the character for "double happiness" (囍), and 888 in popular practice is read as triple prosperity (this interpretation is not documented in encyclopedic sources). Unlike Western schools, here the meaning of the number is determined not by date reduction but by its sound and position in the cosmological scheme.
Number 8 in the mayan : tzolkin calendar, kins, and solar seals tradition
In Mayan numerology, the number 8 is the eighth position in the 13-tone cycle of the Tzolkin calendar (260 days = 13 numbers × 20 day names). In the modern interpretation (José Argüelles's Dreamspell system, 1990), the eighth tone is called "Galactic" and associated with harmony and wholeness. This is a 20th-century reconstruction: the names of the tones are not documented in encyclopedic sources, and "numerology" as a doctrine of destiny numbers is not attested among the ancient Maya.
Number 8 in the tibetan : mewa, parkha, and the calendar tradition
In the Tibetan tradition, numbers 1–9 are the numbers of mewas, symbols of the birth year, not "destiny numbers" in the Western sense: the system is different, and the calculation follows the Tibetan calendar rather than the date of birth. Mewa 8 is not the same as the eight of Western numerology — only the numbering coincides. If your mewa by birth year is 8, see the "Mewa 8" card and the mewa calculator.
By tradition, mewa 8 is white, and its element is iron. Together with mewas 2 and 5, it belongs to the group of animals Tiger, Snake, Monkey, Pig. According to the text of the "White Emerald" as retold by the Tibetan Buddhist Encyclopedia, the possessor of mewa 8 is slow, deep, taciturn, and strict within, skilled in crafts; life expectancy is about 50 years, with three obstacles. For pacification, a statue of Buddha is traditionally recommended.
Disclaimer: the information is based on the traditional text "White Emerald" as retold by the Tibetan Buddhist Encyclopedia; it is symbolic, not a literal prophecy.
